H.S. SOFTBALL: Riders open season in impressive fashion – Hudson Valley 360

ALBANY — Isabella Milazzo pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and went 4 for 5 with six RBI to help Ichabod Crane defeat Holy Names, 12-1, in Friday’s season-opening game.

Emma Scheitinger tripled, singled and drove in two runs for the Riders. MacKenzie Wendelken and Carolina Williams had two doubles and an RBI apiece, Clare Knapp doubled and singled and knocked in a run and Ava Heffner an Cali Ringwood each had a single.

“It was a good start to the season,” Ichabod Crane coach Tracy Nytransky said. “Holy names had some solid players but we were able to get on top of their pitcher quickly to score in the first inning. We had to make a few adjustments but we were making good contact and I thought we ran the bases pretty well.

“Bella had a good day on the mound and at the plate and Emma scheitinger hit the ball all over the field today. We had a few doubles from some of our other players. We bunted well when we needed too also. I’m very pleased with how we played to start off the season.”

Chatham 10, Rensselaer 1

Erin Madsen homered and singled with three RBI and Emily Mesick pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts as Chatham softball defeated Rensselaer, 10-1, on Saturday.

Haley Pulver ripped two doubles and drove in a run for the Panthers. Olive Mountain had three singles and an RBI, Adryanna Jennings contributed a double and single with an RBI, Hannah Taylor doubled and knocked in two runs and eighth-grader Addi Perry singled.

Chatham 12, Maple Hill 2

Emily Mesick fired a complete game one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Chatham to a 12-2 victory over Maple Hill on Friday

Hannah Taylor had three singles and three RBI to highlight Chatham’s 13-hit attack. Olive Mountain ripped a double and single and drove in two runs for the Panthers. Abby Taylor added a double and single, Emily Mesick and Adryanna Jennings had two singles and an RBI each, Erin Madsen singled and knocked in two runs, Allyson Engel had a single and an RBI and Haley Pulver drove in a run.

Jenna Hoffman’s single was Maple Hill’s lone hit off of Mesick.

Kate Brodzinski and Kate Ackerman shared mound duties for the Wildcats, striking out three, walking six and allowing 12 runs and 13 hits.

Greenville 7, Taconic Hills 0

Melody Kappel threw a 5-hit shutout with 17 strikeouts and no walks as Greenville defeated Taconic Hills, 7-0, on Friday.

Kappel also had a double, two singles and an RBI. Emma Haller had a double and single, Maddy Prayto contributed two singles, Taryn Silk singled and drove in a run and Molly SanEmeterio, Shea Landversicht, Nuala Kappel and Camryn Childs each had a single.

Macayla Sparacino, Grace Alvarez, Emilly Mottoshiski, Michaela Maston and Kersten Keeler all singled for Taconic Hills.

Mottoshiski was the losing pitcher, striking out 12, walking just one and allowing seven runs and 12 hits.
