In a very brief history of gingham, it was first imported into Europe from India in the 17th century as a mere stripe, and took on its recognizable checked form when it was produced in the mills of of Manchester, England a century later (and most commonly was woven in blue and white).
Fast forward, and it was popular during the ‘50s and ‘60s, being applied to everything from swing dresses to swimsuits, and even through to mods in the ‘70s (think Fred Perry monochrome plaid shirts). Gingham has become synonymous with sunshine, and is as popular today as it’s ever been, so embrace the check for spring with this edit.
